As the renown 19th Century theorist Carl von Clausewitz observed in his magnum opus On War “War is no pastime, it is no mere joy in daring and winning, no place for irresponsible enthusiasts,” echoing the guidance put forth 2,000 thousand years earlier by Sun Tzu in the opening words contained within The Art of War: “War is a matter of vital importance to the State; the province of life or death; the road to survival or ruin. It is mandatory that it be thoroughly studied.”
